Owners Laura
and Rob Jones settled in Charlottesville in 2001 after ten
years in Atlanta together.
Rob's interest in the arts has focused on the relationship between
the artist's craft and the public's access to it. Following
the completion of his education which focused initially on the
history of 19th and 20th century painting and sculpture and
ultimately the administration of the arts, Rob worked in both
the for-profit and non-profit side of the arts. As a gallery
representative in two of Boston's premier retail art galleries,
he worked on marketing, presentation and sales of the represented
artists in the art glass movement and in high-end crafts. Rob
then moved into the museum field where he focused on administration,
marketing, advertising, special event planning, fund raising,
and member relations.
Laura comes to the business side of art with experience as an
attorney and an artist. Laura's career as a lawyer and her lifelong
interest in art combine to create the energy and skills needed
to successfully run Migration: A Gallery. Laura is also an artist;
having worked in her own studio and exhibited work in galleries
in Atlanta. Laura's natural eye for artistic talent and an ability
to connect with a wide variety of people makes Migration: A
Gallery a must-see in Charlottesville, for residents and visitors.
Rob and Laura share a love of nature, particularly water, and
the spirituality that flows through the natural world. The work
that they select for Migration: A Gallery reflects this shared
truth, as well as their view that art should unleash something
in the eye, brain and soul to take the viewer on a journey,
however brief, away from the everyday. This journey is different
for everyone, as is shown in the variety - and individual beauty
